Our muscles run on an energy form known as ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate). This is the final energy form created and used by our cells to operate after all nutrients from our food have been absorbed by our cells.

During intense exercise our stores of ATP energy are used up quickly, in just a few seconds, and to keep going, our cells need to be able to generate more ATP — fast.
